News>Ballot Statement
|
I,
JEAN QUAN, hereby declare that I am a candidate for an
elective office in the City of Oakland, and make the following
statement, to-wit:
|
|
|
-
That
my name is Jean Quan
-
The
office for which I am a candidate is Oakland City Council,
District 4.
-
My
occupation for the past five years has been: Working
nearly full-time as District 4’s school board member
with corresponding duties as an officer and board member
of several state and national education organizations.
I have also worked part-time in health care and
property management.
-
I
have held the following public offices: School board
member for District 4, incumbent; Chabot Science Center
Co-Chair; and as Councilman Spees’ representative to the
City Budget Advisory Committee.
|
-
As
your Board of Education representative, I worked with
every neighborhood and thousands of families over eleven
years: I led campaigns to provide funds for the first
major renovation of schools in 30 years, class size
reduction, higher academic standards and fiscal
accountability that brought the district from bankruptcy
to top financial ratings. I was a leader in the
establishment of the New Chabot Science Center. As a full
time councilperson my goals are to improve neighborhood
safety and beautification, remove blight and litter,
expand library programs, emergency preparedness and
improve long neglected infrastructure – streets, sewers
and drainage. The Council needs a strong voice for
families, children and neighborhoods. I will improve City
support of Schools, after school and park and recreation
programs. I stand for improving job opportunities for
Oakland residents, housing, economic development and
retail shopping. We need a full-time councilperson to
server and organize our community. Please join us:
